No Spoiler Book Review ![]() The Sun Down Motel is a “No-Tell-Motel” on a deserted stretch of highway on the way to nowhere. It’s a dark and dangerous place where people go to sell drugs, have affairs, and dump bodies. On a slow day, the ghosts outnumber the living. The story follows Victoria, the night shift clerk of Sun Down Motel in 1982 and her niece Carly in 2017. Both are trying to solve the many mysteries surrounding the motel. Why do the lights flicker before the woman appears, who is the kid dressed for summer in the middle of winter, and who is the smoking man? Will they solve these mysteries or wind up becoming ghosts themselves? This is another fantastic audiobook that I could not stop listening to. The audiobook features two female narrators, so Victoria and Carly have their own voices. I have seen that done for books that alternate between male and female voices, but not for two women. It made them unique and separate characters in a way that could not have been accomplished with a single narrator. I hope to see this done more often in the future. Sun Down Motel is great for fans of dark mysteries and thrillers. Fans of ghost stories like the Haunting of Hill House will love this spooky paranormal mystery. If you like the show, American Horror Story (specifically the Murder House season) you will love this haunted hotel. Simone St. James writing gave me the creeps and I loved it! This book is so spooky, it literally gave me chills, in the middle of summer. St. James has earned a place on my permanent to-be-read list! It was amazing. It made a huge difference to have the two female narrators!
